Teacher Training Program
January 2011 – November 2012

This teacher training will prepare students to teach the poses listed on the Introductory I and II syllabi of B.K.S. Iyengar. It will provide a deeper understanding of the Iyengar method, enhance your teaching skills and deepen your home practice. This is a 200-hour teacher training program that is a Yoga Alliance Registered School (RYS-200). This is not a certification program for Iyengar Yoga. Only the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States (iynaus.org) certifies Iyengar Yoga teachers. Those completing this program who are interested in being a certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher will need to apply for certification assessments with IYNAUS. Others, may register with The Yoga Alliance as a RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) in hatha yoga.

Asana Practice & Group Discussions

Learning will be achieved through asana practice, class assignments and group discussions based on written homework and reading assignments. Asana and pranayama classes will be taught each weekend to improve your own practice of the poses. Opportunities to teach each other and learn to teach from each other will be part of every weekend.

Student testimonials

I cannot say enough good things about this (Janice’s) teacher training program. The material was well-conceived and comprehensive, and Janice organized our time together well. The limited class size allowed for ample teaching practice opportunities, meaningful discussions, and the building of a real yoga community. Janice is a true professional as well as a lovely person to study with. — Cindy Berliner, Class of 07-09, Freeport, Maine

I jokingly referred to TT as barefoot boot camp. Yes, it was challenging (and yes, we were barefoot) but I can’t say enough how amazing it was. I loved the focus, the immersion and the incredible amount of information and skills I came away with. Janice is an incredible teacher —knowledgeable, fun, supportive and kind. I am forever changed, and grateful, for the experience. — Steph Salmon, Class of 07-09, Burlington, Vermont

When I moved to Vermont and needed to find a teacher to help mentor me for assessment Patrica Walden recommended Janice Vien. Janice’s current knowledge of the Iyengar method and clear and precise instructions gave me the foundation I needed, her calm nature and nurturing support make studying with Janice such a positive experience. — Leigh Milne
